How to Optimize Your Use of Twitter by Adding Twitter Search to Your Web Browser

Adding Twitter Search to Internet Explorer

By default, Internet Explorer's Search box uses Windows Live search engine. If you want to get Twitter in there, you will need to create what is known as a "custom search provider".

Here is how to get this accomplished in 10 easy step

1. Find the Twitter search page
2. Run a search using TEST (all-caps) as the search word
3. Copy the resulting URL from the Address Bar
4. Click the drop-down arrow to the right of the Search box, and click "Find More Providers".
5. Scroll to the bottom of the window and click the Create your own Search Provider.
6. Click inside the URL text box and past the address from step 3.
7. Use the Name text box to specify the name you want to appear in the "Search" box list
8. Install Search Provider
9. If you want Internet Explorer to use Twitter as default search engine, select the "Make this my default search provider" check box.
10. Click Add.

Using the Twitter Search within Internet Explorer is easier than installing it, pull down the Search box list and click Twitter.

Type in search phrase or word and click search.

Adding Twitter to Firefox

Adding Twitter to Firefox is easier than installing it on Internet Explorer.

Here are the basic steps
1. Find Twitter Search Page
2. Pull down the Search box menu
3. Click Add "Twitter Search". Wasn't that easy

Working with Search Results

Once you have installed your Twitter Search ready to go, it becomes a matter of scrolling through the tweets, looking for the information you want, and trying to find something that catches your eye. Here are three basic things you can do with individual search results

• Check out the tweeter's profile page by clicking the username at the beginning of the tweet
• Click a tweet's link (if there is one) to visit the site.
• See the archive version of the tweet (where time is a time value like "10 minutes or "5 hours)

Other than these basic techniques there are also a few other ways to work with the results you find. You can also mark a tweet as a favorite and access the post whenever you desire. We will study how to mark a search result as a favorite in another article.

Have fun using Twitter on your web browser and take advantage of the accessibility available to you as you search on Twitter without even going directly to Twitter's web site.

Announcing 3 Twitter Tools That They Don't Want You to Know About

By William S Coquerel

Here's how to save a useful Twitter post

Hover your mouse over the search result to show the Favorite icon (should resemble a star), and click on that icon. Twitter colors the icon orange to mark it as a favorite.

Using a Feed to Monitor Search Results

Some searches are one-time-only deals where when you run your search, check the results, and then return to your business. Sometimes, you might run the same search and frequently. For example, you might want to know whenever a tweeter talks about a particular product or service, company, or yourself. (Don't feel bad about searching posts of yourself; everyone does it, it's called EgoTwittering).

This is a nice way to monitor some of your favorite searches.

Twitter, as you probably know, monitors your current searches in the background and also lets you know if new tweets that match your searches come up. This is great as long has you have the Twitter search page displayed, but lets say that your computer turns off or you have to leave for the day.

It becomes wearisome running the same search all over again.

To avoid this confrontation, a better monitoring idea is to create a feed for your search, which will allow you to monitor the search from your favorite feed reader, Google Reader, NewsGator, or Bloglines.

Luckily, creating a feed is just a click away because Twitter shows a link with each search result to a feed for that search, at the bottom of the sidebar, click the RSS feed for this query link.

When the feed page opens, copy the URL from the address bar. Now you can switch to your favorite feed reader, create a new subscription, and paste the address when the feed reader asks you for the feed URL.

Sending your Search Results as a Tweet

When you are searching on the Twitter layout, you may come across some search result that may catch your interest, it may be so interesting that you want to share this discovery with other people who follow you.

1. First, run the search
2. Copy the resulting URL from the browser's address bar
3. Click Home to return to your Twitter home page
4. Type a short message describing the search
5. Click Update

Translating a Search Result to English

Twitter is used around the world, with tweeters tweeting from dozens of countries globally. Chances are that most of your searches are in English but you never know what language you may come across when you're searching Twitter.

Although the "Translate" link is not visible on the new twitter interface, there is a way to work around it

1. Run the search
2. Copy resulting URL from your web browser
3. Navigate your browser to Google Translate
4. Paste in the address in to the "Enter text" or a "Web page URL" text box
5. Under the text box, use the left list to choose the language you want translated
6. Under the text box, use the right list to choose English
7. Click Translate. Google shows you the search result translated into English

Although this way may seem longer, it is worth it if you have something incredible you want to proclaim to your followers.
